The story of First Platoon, Fourth Squadron, 73rd Cavalry regiment which saw hard combat in southern Afghanistan in 2012. President Trump pardoned the platoon leader, Lt. Clint Lorance, who was convicted at a court-martial of second-degree murder in the killing of two Afghans and had been sentenced to 19 years in prison. But Lorance is only one part of the platoon’s troubled history. The unit has been plagued by suicides, suicide attempts, hospitalizations, depression, cancer, car crashes, alcoholism, and early deaths since its return from Afghanistan.
